Clearwater Seafoods Appoints John Gu as Vice President Asia-Pacific

HALIFAX, Nov. 3, 2015 /CNW/ – Clearwater Seafoods ("Clearwater") is pleased to announce the appointment of John Gu as Vice President Asia-Pacific, effective mid-December 2015. Based out of Shanghai, China, Gu will be responsible for providing leadership to further develop and deliver Clearwater’s organizational objectives in the Asia-Pacific region.

Gu currently leads a national sales force of 600 who are responsible for business-to-business interactions across China for a multi-national grocery retailer. Prior to his current role, Gu held a variety of management roles with Unilever China and Unilever EMEA, including several assignments in key Chinese markets.

"John brings valuable know-how and experience in the Asia region to the Clearwater Global Markets team," said Greg Morency, President and Chief Commercial Officer, Clearwater. "With Asian sales representing a significant portion of Clearwater’s global sales, John will play an integral role in determining how Clearwater optimally targets and segments its Asian markets, channels and customers."

Robust demand in Asia has been a key driver of Clearwater’s record achievements in the region. Growth is expected to continue as the recently commissioned, $65 million state-of-the-art clam vessel provides additional supply to the species’ top region. Also, Clearwater’s recent acquisition of Macduff Shellfish will extend the company’s geographic reach and supply opportunities to its valued customers in Asia.

Although Gu’s role will commence in mid-December, he plans to attend the upcoming China Fisheries & Seafood Expo this week, where Clearwater will participate as an exhibitor, promoting its innovation initiatives and global product portfolio. Clearwater will showcase Propeller Clams, Cockle Clams, live and high-pressure Lobster in various formats, in addition to Scallop Selects.
